The Quercan Woods

The only large nation not dominated and ruled by Humans, the Quercan Woods fall under the rule of an Elven Prime. Quercan elves who never leave or adventure out of their forests rarely care about the world, so they are viewed by other nations as reclusive and eccentric. They don’t offer much by means of regular trade and have never showed an interest in war with the Human nations. Although ruled by Elves the Woods are home to many of the more primal races such as Tabaxi, Aarakocra, and many large tribes of Dragonborn and Genasi. The tribal nature of these races and their cultures are recognized and encouraged to take care of themselves; the Elven Prime, as a monarch, is more to handle big-picture issues and solve disputes between tribes and clans. The current Prime is Fabor, who has ruled for several centuries. Few outside of the Woods have ever dealt with him, but he is said to be very eccentric and hard to predict.

Structure

Lacking many cities, most areas are general tribal territories whose borders fluctuate with diplomacy or warfare. The Prime is the ultimate authority over all things, but historically the ruler has left most areas of his nation to take care of themselves. Little else is known to the outside world regarding civic structure.

Public Agenda

Prime Fabor has little interaction with the outside world, including other monarchs. His agendas and policies are not known to those outside the Wood, and one of his few overarching laws for all his people is to maintain these secrets from outsiders.

Assets

Many magical resources are available here, and the Quercan Woods are home to almost all interplanar crossing points with the Feywilds. What little engagement the nation has with global commerce is almost completely the sale of magical components and items to Barid Hold. Many strange and unique creatures dwell exclusively in the Quercan Woods, drawn to the forest's innate magic. Many lucrative furs and animal products can be found by those brave enough to poach within the borders. Tree crops and exotic livestock constitute the meager agricultural production, which is mostly unnecessary due to the land's abundance of natural food sources. Timber, despite being literally everywhere, is a regulated industry overseen by agents of the Prime to sustain the forest ecosystems.

History

The nation's history is not well known in the modern era due to the secrecy that has surrounded the nation since before the Old Empires war. Mysticism and trepidation plague outsiders and typically keep them outside the Woods unless absolutely necessary.
